Abstract
An enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was established to detect rat serum antibodies [Ab] to pneumonia virus of mice (PVM). Vero [African green monkey kidney] cells infected with the virus were adsorbed to the surface of microplates, and the presence of Ab in the sample evaluated was demonstrated by the subsequent use of goat anti-rat immunoglobulin G conjugated to peroxidase and by specific substrate. Ab against pneumonia virus of mice might be detected in rat serum with the ELISA procedure. The results were reproducible, and the method was approximately 8 times more sensitive than the hemagglutination inhibition procedure.
