Abstract
The results of previous trials of alpha tocopherol in intermittent claudication are discussed and the difficulties of assessment considered. A blind controlled trial on patients confirmed the therapeutic value of alpha tocopherol and this is supported by a 5-10 year follow up of 1476 patients. Animal data suggest that the effect is probably due to improved muscle metabolism. Keywords
