THE EFFECT OF INSULIN ON THE BLOOD SUGAR OF FISHES

Abstract

Following injections of insulin in brown trout, scup, and menhaden, convulsions, accompanied by marked reduction in the blood sugar content, were readily produced. These fishes have relatively high normal blood sugar. The convulsions proved fatal unless glucose was administered. Insulin convulsions were not produced in the puffer, a fish having a relatively low normal blood sugar content.
