Effect on Joint Permeability of Adrenal Cortex Extract, ACTH, Cortisone Hydroxy-phenyl Cinchoninic Acid and Hyaluronidase

Abstract
The rate of excretion in the urine of phenolsulfonphthalein (PSP) after its injn. into the knee joint was used as a measure of synovial membrane permeability in rabbits. The ACE prepared by the authors as well as a similar extract supplied by Wilson Laboratories had no effect on the time of appearance of the dye in the urine or on the rate of its excretion. Cortisone, ACTH and HPC were also devoid of effect on membrane permeability to the dye. Permeability to PSP was significantly increased by hyaluronidase and this increase was prevented by large doses of ACTH.
