Studies on the Effect of Metallic Salts on Acid Production in Saliva. I

Abstract
Salts of Cu, Ni, Au, Ag, and Hg have been shown to exert a marked inhibitory action on acid production in saliva containing sucrose. Mg, Co, Mn, Al, Fe, and Cr salts showed little or no activity. A Cu concn. of 0.25 mg. per 100 ml. of saliva containing sucrose definitely retarded acid production while 3 to 4 mg. of Cu per 100 ml. of saliva completely inhibited acid production.
