THE EFFECT OF CASTEATION ON THE ANTERIOR HYPOPHYSIS OF THE FEMALE RAT1

Abstract
Pituitaries of 100 [female][female] were studied at various intervals 5-500 days after ovariectomy. There appeared to be a quantitative increase in percentage of basophiles until 30th day after castration, then a gradual decrease. After the 30th day castration cells appeared in increasing numbers. Eosinophiles increased in percentage during first 60 days, then decreased. There was no morphological change in chromophobes after castration. Colloid appeared in the residual cleft following ovariectomy.
