Excitatory effects following habituation of prey-catching activity in frogs and toads.

Abstract
Evaluated habituation of prey-catching activity toward artificial objects by different methods in 30 toads (bufo bufo L.) and 10 frogs (rana pipiens). Each study demonstrated the expected decrease in responsiveness toward objects moved repeatedly within a limited portion of the visual field. However, a facilitatory aftereffect was observed when objects appeared in a frontal position, after a habituation series within the lateral visual field. This novel outcome is discussed in terms of current neurophysiological hypotheses concerning the habituation process. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
