Abstract
Wire electrodes were inserted into middle-to-lower thoracic levels of the spinal cord through lumbar puncture needles, and action potentials led off to a 3-channel Grass ink-writer. Artefacts were controlled. Bursts of electrical activity followed tactile or proprioceptive stimulation of the leg, and were associated with flexor spasms in a patient who had suffered transect ion of the cord at Th 4. These mass discharges may represent "cord convulsions" or "spinal epilepsy". The author believes that the ESG tracings represent after-discharges.
