Abstract
The cells were reduced, fixed while reduced, and stained with an oxidizing stain. Transfers were made from a 13-hr. culture, and stains made at 2-, 3-. 6-, and 8-hr. intervals. There appeared to be a reorganization of cell material, giving rise to central bodies which broke up into smaller units, roughly 3-6 hrs. after transfer. This condition corresponded with the lag phase of growth. The break-up of the central bodies into mitosis-like figures occurred at the initiation and during the grand period of growth. There was no apparent reorganization of the central bodies until the close of the period.
