Abstract
Stress parameters associated with the splitting of the GR1 and ND1 lines are examined in the light of the recent suggestion that ND1 arises from the negatively charged vacancy. The stress parameters are totally consistent with this interpretation; Jahn-Teller coupling in the excited states being similar for both centres. Keywords
