Abstract
A severe outbreak of the red-banded leaf roller, Argyrotaenia velutinana oc-curred in apple orchards on the Ontario plain of New York during 1947 Observations and exptl. evidence strongly indicate that the change from arsenate of lead to DDT in the codling moth control program has been largely responsible for the sudden up-surge of this leaf roller. In field tests, arsenate of lead, 3 lbs., proved superior to DDT, 1 lb. per 100 gal. Treatment during June gave better control than during late July and early August. Parathion, 3 lbs. of a wettable 15% powder, gave most outstanding results.
