Synthesis and Characterization of Semiconductive Poly‐1,4‐Dimethoxybenzene and Its Derived Polyquinone

Abstract

Biconductive films, involving the incorporation of an electronically conductive phase within an ionically conductive one, on glassy carbon electrode surfaces have been prepared by electropolymerization to form polypyrrole (PP) in matrices of Nafion and the clay, hectorite. These films display electronic conductivity and higher stability than films of PP alone. Electrochemical studies of several species at these electrodes ( , , methyl viologen) are described. Freestanding PP/Nafion and PP/hectorite films have also been prepared.
