Abstract
A simple spectrophotometric procedure has been developed for the determination of tin with phenylfluorone. It is designed for use with a preliminary solvent extraction of the tin as the iodide. The tin-phenylfluorone complex is formed at pH 1, in a solution containing 36 per cent. v/v of ethanol. The procedure gives a coefficient of variation of 0·8 per cent. for 1 µg of tin, and a limit of detection of 0·03 µg of tin. Beer's law is obeyed up to 3 µg, giving a working range of 0·3 to 3·0 µg of tin.
