Abstract
The power and polarisation dependence of modulation instability were experimentally investigated and used to obtain a novel, simple and accurate method for the measurement of Kerr coefficient in optical fibres. New results on dispersion shifted fibres are reported, giving n2 = 2.64 × 10-20 m2/W at 1553 nm (linear polarisation). Keywords
