THE RESPONSE OF VARIOUS TYPES OF BRONCHOGENIC CARCINOMA TO NITROGEN MUSTARD

Abstract
Patients (32) with far advanced bronchogenic carcinoma were treated with nitrogen mustard. Nine of 10 patients with small cell carcinoma of the lung obtained significant objective or subjective improvement. One patient with an unknown cell type of lung carcinoma showed improvement in neurological symptoms. Only 3 of 21 patients with other cell types of bronchogenic carcinoma showed some subjective improvement. It is concluded that only the small cell type of bronchogenic carcinoma may be expected to obtain some benefit from nitrogen mustard therapy.
