Factors Determining Dosages of Amide-type Local Anesthetic Drugs

Abstract

A study of 9287 regional blocks, using statistical tests of multiple regression and chi square, substantiates that the occurrence of systemic toxic reactions in adults does not correlate with dosages and/or physical status of the patient when .ltoreq. 400 mg bupivacaine, .ltoreq. 450 mg etidocaine or .ltoreq. 500 mg mepivacaine is used. The study questions maximum dosages established for certain local anesthetic drugs and the method by which such dosages were established.
