Abstract
The purpose of the present prospective study was to compare different risk factors in head injuries with one known risk factor, the level of consciousness at admission. The series includes 1,120 head-injured patients admitted to hospitals in Trøndelag, Norway, in 1979 and 1980. In addition to the level of consciousness at admission, the following factors seemed to be important for the outcome: age, pupillary light reactions, intracranial haematomata, associated extracranial injuries and skull fracture. Keywords
