Nuclear Spin and Moments ofTi45

Abstract
The nuclear spin and moments of the radioactive isotope Ti45 have been measured by the atomic-beam magnetic-resonance method. These measurements were performed in the J=3 fine-structure state. The spin was measured to be I=72 and the hyperfine interaction constants were determined to be: |A|=4.59±0.07 Mc/sec and |B|=1.5±1.5 Mc/sec, with BA>0. From the known hyperfine interaction constants and nuclear moments of Ti47 and Ti49 the nuclear magnetic dipole and electric quadrupole moments were calculated. The results are (with no diamagnetic or Sternheimer corrections): |μI|=0.095±0.002 nm and |Q|=0.015±0.015 b, with μIQ>0. These results are interpreted from the point of view of certain shell-model calculations.
