The Spectrum of Iodine Excited in the Presence of Argon

Abstract
Iodine vapor was excited by an uncondensed transformer discharge in the presence of argon. A new band system λ27852750A is recorded. In addition a large number of new bands are found in the band systems λ34553015A, λ27302520A, and λ44204000A reported by earlier workers. These band systems are analyzed and explained in terms of the fairly well-established term scheme of the iodine molecule. The absorption data in the region λ20003500A are discussed in the light of the present results.
