ACIDIFYING AND NON-ACIDIFYING CARBOXYLIC RESIN MIXTURES USED ALONE AND WITH ACTH OR CORTISONE

Abstract
Mixtures of acidifying (H or NH4) and K forms of carboxylic exchange resin were adm. to humans during balance studies. Increasing the K fraction reduced or eliminated acidosis with concomitant decrease in net stool delivery of Na and of diuretic effect. Similar response patterns were observed during admn. of ACTH and cortisone. Associated hypokaliemia was decreased in degree by larger amts. of K resin in the mixture.
