Abstract
The ultrastructure of the retinal pigment epithelium of the Cynomolgus monkey is described. Particular interest is focused on the morphological basis for the functions of the pigment epithelium as part of the blood-retina barrier, as a metabolically active cell layer and as a participant in photoreceptor outer segment renewal. Keywords
