Municipal organic wastes and composts for arid areas

Abstract
Municipal organic wastes offer many benefits for application to arid soils, including (1) increased soil fertility, (2) increased water retention in the soil, (3) decreased soil erosion, and (4) decreased fertilizer requirements. Both refuse and sewage sludge are sources of municipal organic wastes. This paper presents health and environmental considerations on the use of municipal organic wastes and waste processing requirements to prepare the materials for use.
