Abstract
Explicit relations between the surface tension (interfacial energy density), the equilibrium shape of a crystal, and the total surface energy are given. For the Ising model with anisotropic couplings, the exact equilibrium shape is cast into a closed form of elementary functions. The surface energy is compared with Monte Carlo simulations. A discussion of the solid-on-solid approximation is presented.
