Limit Analysis of Steel Structures Allowing for Shear Force

Abstract
A numerical iterative procedure to investigate the influence of the shear force in the carrying capacity of rigid-plastic frames is presented. The approach is founded on parametric linear programming theory and permits one to study the problem without introducing in the analysis the entire yield condition in terms of stress resultants. For this purpose the shear force is regarded as a parameter on which the bending moment-axial force interaction profile depends. Some examples are developed in order to illustrate the computational aspects of the proposed method.
