Abstract
It is shown that previous findings regarding the relative significance of circular against linear polarizations of light for multiphoton ionization of s-state electrons are valid more generally for any state with quantum numbers nlm. Simple expressions for calculating Nth order ionization rates for circular as well as linear polarization of light are presented, which apply to a model one electron atom with arbitrary quantum numbers. Keywords
