Abstract
The uniaxial anisotropy and magnetostriction along the hard direction of single crystals of Gd, Tb, Dy, and Er have been measured in pulsed fields up to 150 kOe. The magnetic anisotropy and magnetostriction are very large for Tb, Dy, and Er; with effective anisotropy fields considerably greater than 150 kOe. In Gd the magnetic anisotropy and magnetostriction are two orders of magnitude smaller. Keywords
