High proton conductivity in pressed pellets of zinc–chromium hydroxide

Abstract

Pressed pellets of the new layer compound [Zn₂Cr(OH)₆]OH.nH₂O have a high proton conductivity, which is due to proton transfer between H₂O and OH^– species, in contrast with the usual involvement of H₃O⁺ and H₂O in good solid-state proton conductors.
