ORDERED AND DISORDERED HYDROGEN BONDS IN TIN(II) CHLORIDE DIHYDRATE FROM SINGLE CRYSTAL NEUTRON DIFFRACTION

Abstract

Single crystal neutron diffraction shows that the deuteron arrangements in SnCl₂·2D₂O are ordered and disordered, respectively, below and above T_tr. In the high temperature phase four deuterons of two non-equivalent water molecules distribute among seven sites with individual occupancy factors.
