STUDIES ON THE STORAGE OF THE OESTROGEN-PRECURSOR IN THE INTERSTITIAL GLAND OF THE OVARY OF RATS TREATED WITH OESTRADIOL BENZOATE AND PROGESTERONE

Abstract
Estradiol benzoate and progesterone (20 and 5 mg. per day, respectively, or every 2d day) produce a storage of the estrogen-precursor in the interstitial gland of rat ovaries in intact but not in hypophysectomized rats. These steroids, therefore do not cause a storage by a direct action on the interstitial cells but act via the hypophysis. The ovary is subjected to a certain basal gonadotrophic stimulus so that the balance between precursor storage and its transformation becomes positive.
