A MEDIUM PROMOTING RAPID QUANTITATIVE SPORULATION IN CLOSTRIDIUM PERFRINGENS

Abstract
A highly buffered starch-peptone medium is described which promoted sporulation in 138 strains of C. perfringens. Albumin was found to be unnecessary for sporulation in this medium. Growth was poor and large inocula had to be used. Spore yields of 80-90% were obtained in 24 hours. The medium is limited to C. perfringens.
