Abstract
Pairs of dogs receiving vasopressin and mineralocorticoids underwent femoral artery to femoral vein cross-circulation while one member of each pair (donor) received an intravenous infusion of Ringer’s lactate. No significant increase in urinary sodium excretion (UNaV), filtered load of sodium (FNa) or renal hemodynamics occurred in the non-infused recipients during the first hour of infusion of the donors. It is concluded that a systemic humoral mediator for the depression of tubular reabsorption of sodium in response to acute extracellular fluid volume expansion was not demonstrable under the conditions of this study. Keywords
