Abstract
The accuracy and technical simplicity of the gluconate oxidation test (Haynes), oxidase test (Kovacs) and cytochrome oxidase test (Gaby) were compared under routine conditions for identification of Pseudomonas-like microorganisms isolated from clinical specimens. The Kovacs test was overly sensitive in that several cultures of Alkaligenes faecalis gave reactions similar to P. aeruginosa. The Gaby test was technically simpler than the Haynes test and was of equal or superior accuracy.
