Abstract
Total deposition curves for aerosols were computed under a number of conditions, by a method similar to that described in a previous publication by the author, using an improved respiratory tract model due to Weibel. Agreement between these computed curves and experimental data was satisfactory. Sets of correction factors to be applied to results from size-selective samplers were calculated, based on a computed standard alveolar deposition curve. Results were obtained for two types of sampling instruments, operating according to standard sampling efficiency equations, and for three types of aerosol particle-size distribution curves, over the mean particle-size range 0·2–10 µ. These factors are intended to provide improved estimates of relative alveolar particle weight and particle surface deposition.
