Relationship between endoesophageal and intrathoracic pressure variations in dog

Abstract
In two dogs, intrathoracic and endoesophageal pressure were simultaneously recorded. Between intrathoracic and endoesophageal pressure variations a difference of magnitude was found, depending upon a) the elastance of the esophageal walls and b) the volume/pressure coefficient of the measuring equipment of the endoesophageal pressure. Knowing a) and b) from endoesophageal pressure measurements, intrathoracic pressure variations may be calculated. Submitted on December 15, 1958
