It is said that no organ in the body escapes involvement in association with epidemic parotitis, yet complications are comparatively infrequent in the average epidemic. When the nervous system becomes involved, the alarming symptoms attract attention. It is estimated that about two hundred and fifty contributions dealing with involvement of the nervous system in cases of epidemic parotitis are listed in theIndex Catalog of the Library of the Surgeon General's Office and in the Quarterly Cumulative Index Medicus. MYELITIS The following case of parotitic myelitis is reported, because of the rarity of the condition, and because it sheds some light on the nature of the neurologic lesions occasionally encountered.
