A CLINICAL CLASSIFICATION OF URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS BASED UPON ORIGIN

Abstract

A discussion on the clinical classification of bacterial urinary tract infections is presented. The following categories were proposed: first infections (symptomatic), unresolved bacteriuria during treatment, bacterial persistence and reinfections. The latter 2 are recurrent urinary infections. The differences between these categories and therapeutic implications are discussed.
