Abstract
2 experiments were conducted to determine whether "choice" was essential for the appearance of stimulus satiation effects in the T maze. In 2 conditions with choice, animals were permitted to make 2 successive free choices. In 2 conditions, without choice, they were placed and detained in 1 of the alternatives and then permitted to make a free choice. Significant amounts of alternation appeared with and without choice. In Experiment II another group of rats was run without choice. Significant amounts of alternation appeared. The results indicate that stimulus satiation can be obtained both with and without choice. The effects can be obtained under a wide range of procedures.
