Abstract
Demonstration of the value of nondirective methods is one of the major contributions of clinical psychology. But these methods do not fill all of the needs of treatment of even the mild personality disorders. Directive methods are a valuable supplement in getting case histories, discovering basic maladjustments, and providing the shock treatment sometimes essential to a lasting cure. Clinicians should not rigidly limit themselves to one technique. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)
