Bacteria Producing Trimethylene Glycol

Abstract
15 cultures of bacteria, all citrate-positive, coli-aerogenes intermediates, were found to produce trimethylene glycol from glycerol. For the group the new genus CITROBACTER (Bacteriaceae) (p. 173) is proposed, type, C. freundii (Escherichia f. Braak) (p. 176). Other spp. referred to the genus are: C. album (Escherichia alba Schrire) (p. 177) ; C. glycologenes (p. 178), and C. intermedium (p. 178), from feces; C. decolorans (Aerobacter d. Burkey) (p. 179); C. diversum (Aerobacter d. Burkey) (p. 180) ; C. anindo-licum (Escherichia anindolica (Lembke) Bergey et al.) (p. 181). Should the genus Bacterium be retained, Citrobacter becomes the name of a subgenus.
