Abstract
Magnetization curves for CrF3 , CrBr3 , and CrI3 at 4.2°K have been determined for fields up to 16 kilogauss. CrF3 exhibits hysteresis with a remanent moment of 0.04 Bohr magneton, and a saturation moment of ca 0.1. CrF3 is evidently ferrimagnetic. CrBr3 exhibits no hysteresis, and below 350 gauss the magnetization is strictly linear with field. CrI3 exhibits pronounced hysteresis not fully developed at 16 kilogauss. The expected saturation moment of 3 Bohr magnetons is compatible with the curves for CrBr3 and CrI3 .
