Injection of Mouse Adapted and Egg Adapted Poliomyelitis-like Virus into White Rats

Abstract
Mouse-adapted and egg-adapted strains of highly virulent SK and MM poliomyelitis-like virus cause no severe symptoms on first passage into white rats, however the injd. virus increases in amt. to top titers resembling first mouse passage of influenza virus as described by Hirst in this respect. Rat brain virus produced in this way and used in the active state incites potent neutralizing antibody in rabbits. MM antiserum neutralized MM virus, also the highly virulent SK virus, and in addition a highly virulent derivative of the Lansing strain, but does not neutralize the well known original Lansing strain from Armstrong.
