Visual static agnosia with special reference to literal agnosic alexia

Abstract
Two cases of visual agnosia (with the predominance of literal alexia) displaying a dissociation between the very good results obtained by the dynamic method of examination (the examiner drawing the letters in front of the patient) and the poor or non-existing results obtained by simple viewing of the letter (static method) is reported The semeiological features of the results of dynamic examination are described. It is inferred that a static visual literal agnosia may be spoken of in which the possibility of dynamic recognition of the latter is still preserved. The role of the ocular muscle receptors in this form of alexia is discussed.
