Mycoplasma Contamination of Cultured Amniotic Fluid Cells: Potential Hazard to Prenatal Chromosomal Diagnosis

Abstract
Amniotic fluid cell cultures were screened for mycoplasma contamination. Mycoplasma RNA's were observed in more than half the cultures examined. Karyotypic analyses of these contaminated cell cultures revealed a significant increase in chromosomal aberrations. These studies emphasize the need for screening for mycoplasma in cultured amniotic cells.Keywords
