Abstract
Adm. of highly purified extracts of the adrenal cortex was effective in maintaining normal or supernormal blood sugar and liver glycogen levels in hypophysectomized rats; muscle glycogen was also kept at approximately normal values. Small amts. of extract, e.g., 6 cc. daily, readily produced elevations of blood sugar, and amts. totalling 24-30 cc. daily given in small, frequent doses markedly influenced the storage of liver glycogen. Furthermore, cortico-adrenal extract restored normal blood glucose and liver glycogen values in hypophysectomized rats which had been carbohydrate-depleted by a 12-hr. fast before injs. were begun. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
