Electron capture processes in the radiolysis of hydrogen chloride and of propane + hydrogen chloride mixtures

Abstract
The depression of the H2 yield from irradiated HCl gas by SF6 has been studied at different HCl concentrations. It is concluded that HCl reacts with thermal electrons, in competition with SF6, by a process which is third order in HCl concentration. A mechanism is suggested for this process which also explains the effect of HCl on the N2 and H2 yields in the radiolysis of C3H8+N2O mixtures.
