Abstract
The defect structures of lightly doped alkaline-earth fluorides are examined using theoretical methods. Calculations are reported on cluster structures and reorientation mechanisms. Simple models are proposed which account for the principal results of spin resonance, relaxation and ITC studies of these crystals. The interpretations of the results of the latter experiments are based on novel interstitial migration mechanisms, which are related to structural features of more heavily doped crystals. Keywords
