CHLOROPHYLL STUDIES ON BARLEY MUTANTS

Abstract
The chlorophyll content of 8 inherited chlorophyll mutants was analyzed chromatographically and through chemical partition, and compared with normal segregates. The mutants having both chlorophylls a and b fall roughly into 3 groups: Those which are chlorotic but have a significantly greater total chlorophyll (on a dry wt. basis); those which contain as much total chlorophyll as the normals, and those which contain significantly less total chlorophyll. In all 3 groups the ratio of a/b is normal. One stock apparently contains no chlorophyll b. Absorption spectra of the b-deficient type are shown.
