Abstract
An instrument recently described by Dameshek and Loman (1932) for use in man has been found eminently suitable as a simple and accurate method for repeated direct intra-arterial determination of mean blood pressure in trained unanesthetized normal and adrenalectomized dogs. Many check determinations made simultaneously with this instrument and the mercury manometer and cannulations as a standard, demonstrate tho accuracy of this method at high, low and normal pressure levels. The average of mean arterial pressure values for 35 normal unoperated and 31 bilaterally adrenalectomized dogs maintained in normal physiological conditions by cortical extract was respectively 107.2 and 106.1. The range of readings for 66 individuals was 92-120 mm. Hg. The effects upon arterial blood pressure of certain anesthetic drugs are briefly summarized.
