Serological Comparisons Between Infectious Canine Hepatitis Virus and Human Adenovirus Types

Abstract
Anti-genic relationships between infectious canine hepatitis virus (ICHV) and adenovirus types 2 and 4 have been demonstrated by complement-fixation, indirect hemagglutination, and gel-diffusion precipitin tests. The serological relationship was unilateral, for antisera against human adenoviruses react in various tests with ICHV antigens, while specific antisera to ICHV failed to react with human adenovirus antigens. There was no reciprocal neutralization between the virus types tested. Certain biologic properties shared by ICHV and the human adenoviruses were compared, and these suggest that ICHV should be included taxonomically within the adenovirus group.
