HYPOCHROMIC ANAEMIAS OF PREGNANCY AND THE PUERPERIUM

Abstract
The average Hb level of women of the poorer classes falls during pregnancy up to the 37th week of gestation and then rises slightly before delivery. A rise also occurs from 48 hrs. post-partum to 6-11 months after delivery. The transference of Fe from mother to fetus can be compensated by dietary iron. The blood loss at parturition may produce severe hypochromic anemia.
